I am excited that my work “The Drip Gorge” has been included in the RQAS Brisbane Art Showcase. This Exhibition held in partnership with Queens Wharf is on show from July 1, 2025, to 4 August, 2025 at the Star Brisbane Event centre.
The Drip Gorge is a special piece to me - the gorge is a landmark of cathedral-like beauty near Ulan, NSW, and a site of great significance to the traditional owners, the Wiradjuri people. This traditional site was sold to a mining company without assurance of its conservation, provoking successful local community action to seeking its protection, and is now a part of the Goulburn River National Park. The beauty of the site and the poignancy of its endangerment inspired me to visit to make an artist’s record of this stunning piece of Australian landscape.
Painted in oils on linen, my practice is to draw or paint in situ, producing studies which are rehearsals for the final work painted in the studio. “The Drip Gorge” is thus a mature translation of these preliminary works backed up by my visual and emotional memory of the essence of the central motif.
